FAQs
What types of waxing do you offer?
Skin + Care Esthetics offers full-body and facial waxing using professional-grade soft and hard wax designed for sensitive skin. Each service is customized for your comfort and skin type, ensuring a smooth, effective result with minimal irritation. If you’re on active products or receiving other treatments (like high-dose retinoids, recent lasers, or intense peels), we’ll evaluate whether it should be modified or postponed.
How long does my hair need to be for waxing?
For best results, hair should be about ¼ inch long—roughly the length of a grain of rice. This allows the wax to grip the hair effectively and remove it from the root. If the hair is too short, the wax may not adhere properly; if it’s too long, trimming may be recommended before your service.
Can I get a wax if I'm on my period?
Yes—you can still be waxed while on your period, as long as you’re comfortable. Please wear a clean tampon or menstrual cup during your service. Keep in mind that skin may be slightly more sensitive during this time.
Can I get waxed if I'm pregnant?
Yes, waxing is generally safe during pregnancy, though increased blood flow can make skin slightly more sensitive. Let your esthetician know so they can adjust technique and positioning for your comfort.
How often should I get waxed?
Most clients schedule waxing every 4–6 weeks to maintain smoothness and reduce regrowth. Consistent waxing helps hair grow back finer, softer, and more sparse over time.
Can I get waxed if I'm using retinol, acne medication, or exfoliating products?
Avoid waxing if you’ve used topical retinoids, tretinoin, or strong exfoliating acids(AHAs or BHAs) within the past 7–10 days, as these thin the skin and can cause lifting or irritation. If you are currently taking Accutane (isotretinoin) or have recently completed the medication, you must wait at least 6–12 months after finishing treatment before receiving any waxing services. Always consult with your dermatologist prior to scheduling to ensure your skin is safely ready for waxing. Physical exfoliating salt or sugar scrubs are encouraged to be used about 48 hours before a wax to soften the skin and loosen any hairs that may be trapped under dead skin. Always disclose any medications or active skincare products at your appointment so your service can be adjusted safely.
Can I get a wax if I have a sunburn or recent sun exposure?
No. You should wait until your skin is fully healed. Waxing over sunburned or freshly tanned skin can cause irritation, lifting, or uneven results. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 24–48 hours before and after your wax and always protect your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF daily.
Will waxing cause ingrown hairs or bumps?
Mild bumps are normal and temporary, especially for first-time waxers. Regular exfoliation and moisturizing between services help prevent ingrown hairs. Your esthetician can recommend a gentle post-wax treatment or exfoliating product to keep skin smooth.
Does waxing hurt?
You may feel brief discomfort as the hair is removed, but it subsides quickly. The more consistently you wax, the less sensitive the area becomes over time. Skin + Care Esthetics uses high-quality waxes and soothing post-care to minimize irritation and redness.
How long do results last after waxing?
Typically, results last 3–4 weeks, depending on your personal hair growth cycle and hormones. With consistent waxing, you’ll notice longer-lasting smoothness and finer regrowth.
Can I shave between wax appointments?
It’s best not to. Shaving disrupts the hair growth cycle and can make your next wax less effective. Allow hair to regrow naturally for the smoothest, longest-lasting results.
Can I wear makeup after facial waxing?
It’s best to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after facial waxing. The skin may be more sensitive during this time, and applying makeup can introduce bacteria or cause irritation. Allowing your skin to breathe helps prevent breakouts and ensures it stays calm and smooth post-treatment.
Does waxing make my hair grow back darker or thicker?
No — waxing does not make hair grow back darker, thicker, or coarser. In fact, consistent waxing can lead to softer, finer regrowth over time since the hair is removed from the root. Hair texture and growth rate are determined by your natural genetics and hormones, not by waxing.
What should I do/not do before and after my wax?
Please refer to the Pre + Post Care Guide.
Stay consistent with your recommended Glymed+ home care routine, protect with SPF daily, and avoid picking or over-exfoliating. Your esthetician can update your routine each season.
